Editorial Standards
Last updated: July 8, 2026
Burst Mode Media is an independent sports media outlet operated by Anthony Rivera. These standards describe how we report, photograph, and publish — and how we maintain clear separation from the teams and institutions we cover.
Independence
Burst Mode Media is an independent outlet. We are not affiliated with, endorsed by, or an official publication of The University of Texas at Austin, Texas Athletics, the NCAA, the AUSL, or any collegiate or professional sports organization unless expressly stated in writing.
What we publish
- Original reporting — game coverage, features, and analysis written by our staff from credentialed access or verified public sources.
- Original photography — images shot and edited by Anthony Rivera unless otherwise credited.
- Sourced analysis — when we summarize official releases or trusted outlets, we link to primary sources and label the piece accordingly.
We do not publish unverified rumors, AI-generated reporting presented as original work, or content copied from other outlets without attribution.
Credentialed access
Press-box and sideline credentials are granted for editorial coverage. We do not use credential access for advertising, endorsements, or non-editorial commercial promotion. Coverage decisions are made by our editorial staff, not by teams or athletic departments.
Current credentialed access includes the AUSL Texas Volts (professional softball).
Quotes and attribution
- Direct quotes come from press conferences, interviews, or official transcripts we attended or verified.
- We identify speakers by name and role. Paraphrasing is labeled as paraphrase, not placed inside quotation marks.
- Game facts (scores, statistics, rosters) are checked against official box scores, league data, or athletics releases before publication.
- When a postgame transcript is unavailable, we say so and rely on the official box score and on-site reporting.
Photography ethics
- We do not stage or digitally alter game action in ways that misrepresent what occurred.
- Standard exposure, color, and crop adjustments are part of normal photojournalism workflow.
- Watermarks identify our work; licensing terms are available on our photo licensing page.
- Team, university, and league logos may appear incidentally in editorial photographs. That appearance does not imply endorsement.
Trademarks and team names
Team names, university names, and league names are used in editorial context to identify the subjects of our coverage. We do not use official university or team logos as our own branding, and we do not imply sponsorship or official affiliation.
Conflicts of interest
We disclose material relationships that could affect coverage. Paid commercial work (commissions, licensing) is separate from news coverage unless explicitly labeled as sponsored content — which we do not mix with standard game reporting.
We offer commercial photography services — paid game coverage, team packages, and freelance assignments. That work is booked, produced, and delivered outside of our credentialed editorial access. Hiring us does not purchase coverage on this site, and our reporting is never conditioned on a commercial relationship.
Voice and authorship
Our articles are written and edited by named staff — not generated wholesale by AI and published without review. We may use software for transcription, spell-checking, or organizing notes; the reporting voice, structure, and publish decision are human.
Game recaps from credentialed access carry a byline and dateline. Desk pieces that summarize official releases say so plainly. Direct quotes come from sources we attended or verified; we do not invent quotes or paraphrase inside quotation marks.
Corrections
Factual errors are corrected promptly and noted on the article when the correction is material. See our Corrections policy for how to report a mistake.
